If you enjoy Art and you wish to be a part of the unique atmosphere of the Art and Design Department at Post 16 then A Level Art and Design is for you.

It allows you to express yourself creatively and to produce work based on your own strengths and interests. Throughout the course you will work from your chosen theme, experiment with a wide range of media, techniques and research the work of artists, thus identifying and developing your own style of working. You have the exciting opportunity to experience a life drawing course in Year 12 which is not normally offered until university.  There are no exams in Year 12 and you have a mock in the second half of the Autumn Term of Year 13.

Final grades are determined by:

  • Component 1: Personal Investigation (Coursework)and written Contextual Study: (60% of Total Marks).
  • Component 2:  Externally Set Assignment: Preparatory work over a number of weeks and a 1.5 hour practical exam (40% of Total Marks). There is no written exam.

At the end of the course, the work is internally moderated by the Head of Department and Deputy Head of Department, along with the KS5 Photography team. It is then externally moderated by a Moderator from the Edexcel Exam Board. This process ensures standardisation and that work is marked to the national standard.

Your work will be displayed in the A Level Exhibition at the end of year.

Career opportunities are endless!

What qualifications do I need?
