Students were all smiles at the college as they collected their A Level results on 14th August 2025. This year's Sixth Form students exceeded expectations and achieved the best results in recent years with A*- C grades up 6% compared to last year, and the number of A*- A grades nearly doubling.
Amongst the highest achievers include Hugo Castro (A*AA) who is going on to study Engineering at Southampton University, Chloe Mora (A*AA) who will study Physical Geography at Exeter University, Imogen Hitchcock (A*AB) who will study Physiotherapy at Southampton University and Dylan Hurst (AAB), who will go on to study Medicine at Plymouth University. Across the board, students exceeded their expectations, producing an overall ‘Value Added’ score that is likely to place the school in the top 20% of Post-16 institutions in the country for the progress made in the two years between GCSE and A Levels.

The school says it is delighted to see so many of our students achieving the grades that they deserve and progressing on to their chosen destinations. The vast majority of students who applied to university have now had their places confirmed – most of these being at their first-choice universities.
Headteacher, Tom Inman, said: “We are delighted to be able to celebrate these results with our wonderful Year 13 students. They have been one of the year groups whose secondary education was probably most affected by COVID. We have seen some stunning individual successes at the top end, but, as a truly comprehensive Sixth Form, I am so thrilled to see students succeed so well across the range of abilities and in such a diverse range of subjects.
“We are incredibly proud, not only of their academic performance, but also of the students’ wider achievements and the wonderful young adults that they have become over their time at Exmouth Community College. My thanks also to our brilliant team of hugely committed staff who have supported these students through their time with us, and especially over the turbulence of recent years”.
From Head of Sixth Form, Ashley Dyer: “We are delighted that so many of our students have already secured their places at university or in other training or employment. We have been hugely impressed by the mature and resilient approach of our students throughout their secondary experience and, in particular, the way in which they have supported each other as a community. We will continue to work with every young person to support them on to the next steps that are right for them and look forward to following their further progress in the years to come’.
2023 Results
The Exmouth Community College year 13’s performance this Summer has been testament to their hard work, determination, and resilience; being the first cohort for 4 years to be awarded their grades in a normal way.
88% of ECC UCAS applicants will be attending a university of their choice. 75% of our university applicants achieved their first-choice university place, with 13% achieving their insurance choice. Students will be moving away to top universities across the country, from Falmouth to Glasgow, studying courses from Medicine to Game Design.
In comparison to 2019, ECC results have once again shown strong improvement with an additional 16 A* or A grades. The number of top grades has been reduced nationally, making the success of our learners even more remarkable, with the drop in high grades year on year at ECC better than nationally.
We have seen a return to pre-pandemic grading standards, meaning the success of this cohort is even more impressive.
We are exceptionally proud of all of our students' results, but particular mentions to Alberta Sprague, who will be going on to study Veterinary Science at Nottingham University, a real achievement in one of the most competitive university courses, and Beth George, who achieved stellar success with A*, A*, A across her A-levels in Art, Sociology and Philosophy. Beth is focused on developing her Art portfolio in Exeter next year as a springboard to her next steps. We want to thank all the staff working with our Post 16 students who have been so supportive, creative and determined in enabling every learner to achieve their potential.
