Recruiting Great People
Our recruitment process is fair and without prejudice. We welcome applications from all those who meet the criteria outlined in the Job Description.
- Competitive pay - We follow the Teachers' Pay and Conditions for Teaching Staff, and nationally agreed National Joint Council salary scale to remunerate Support Staff.
- Visit us - We welcome all prospective candidates to visit and tour the College. Where possible, this will be with the Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher for Staff or the appropriate Head of Department.
- We offer a thorough onboarding and induction period for all staff. This is often personalised to either a teaching or support staff role but will include:
- An opportunity to complete a visit day or morning where you will meet your team/department.
- Induction sessions with key members of SLT to ensure you feel sure about our systems and processes.
- Staff guides to walk you through your first few months at ECC.

We are passionate about empowering and supporting our staff. We believe that we get the best from our people when they feel heard, considered and have a strong sense of belonging.
Our roles in schools are incredibly rewarding. We expect our staff to work hard. But, we all need the tools and support to succeed.
To support staff we offer:
- Clear Meetings and CPD calendar published at the start of the year - meetings are never added without considered notice.
- Centralised resources and planning - To help with the workload and wellbeing of staff.
- Staff Voice - Through surveys and feedback forms.
- On site parking - Free of charge on both of our sites.
- Gym - Free of charge for all staff wishing to use our on-site gym, containing state-of-the-art equipment. Staff are offered hours to use the gym when students are unable to access.
- Childcare - We offer an on-site nursery for children aged 3 months to 4 years (more details can be found on the Nursery Page of our Website, Happy Days.
- Child unwell days - To support families, we offer child unwell days.
- Discounts - Staff can access discounts for local business, they can also apply for a Totum Card.
- Employee Assist Programme - The College purchases an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), run by an organisation specialising in providing support to the education sector, which provides staff with: access to a 24-hour confidential helpline, counselling for you and your family, financial and legal advice, support for managers.
- Flu Jab Contribution- We contribute towards the cost for all staff not eligible to receive the Flu Jab.
- Bike to Work Scheme - The College offers a cycle to work scheme that is open to all contracted staff. For more information, see Bike to Work.
- Excellent Pension Schemes - For both Teaching and Support Staff.
- Long Service Days - For support staff at 10, 15 and 20 years of service.
Developing Our People
Education is ever evolving. We expect our staff to have up-to-date knowledge of pedagogy, support systems and ways of working. We therefore ensure that our Professional Development offering matches our expectation.
Teaching Staff:
- Regular workshops, conferences and CPD experiences - from outside speakers such as Tom Sherrington, John Tomset, Daniel Sobel, Alan Jervis and representatives from Paul Dix training.
- NPQs - We support and encourage staff to work towards a National Professional Qualification and have a number of staff completing a qualification in many areas.
- Working with other schools - Staff are encouraged to collaborate and work with other schools. Both visiting and hosting colleagues with us to share excellent practice.
- WALKTHRUS - All teachers have access to the WALKTHRUS website through the College login.
- Coaching - All teachers take part in our Instructional Coaching model by being coached and coaching someone else to improve their own practice.
- The National College - All teachers have their own login to The National College to follow guided CPD but to also take the lead on their own professional development.
- Exam Board Training and Feedback - staff are released to complete exam board training and feedback sessions. We also have a number of staff who examine for different examboards.
Support Staff:
- The National College - All support staff have their own login to The National College to follow guided CPD but to also take the lead on their own professional development.
- Working with other schools - Staff are encouraged to collaborate and work with other schools. Both visiting and hosting colleagues with us to share excellent practice.
- CPD requests - to enhance and offer new skills are encouraged to ensure support staff feel best placed to do their jobs. This can be both in and out of College.
Empowering All People
Ensuring the staff feel informed and empowered to do their jobs to the best of their abilities, and to have a sense of pride in their work is a key priority.
To ensure staff are supported, we:
- Have a clear behaviour policy which allows staff to form positive relationships with students, but has systems in place to support them when needed.
- Seek feedback from staff regularly to hear what works, what we can do better or to check on wellbeing.
- Have an open door policy - if you are unclear, check in. If you feel unsure, talk it through. If you need some advice, let's discuss it.
- Celebrate each other.
- Communicate.
