The New Term
A message from Andrew Davis
Dear Parents and Carers,
With the first week over, I just wanted to pass on my thanks for your support last week.
Students looked exceptionally smart in their new uniforms and so thank you for all your work on that. In addition, Year 7 Triangle of Partnership assemblies went really well and it was great to see so many parents, carers and family members at this important event.
We also held assemblies for students across all the other years and discussed the importance of being resilient and determined in their studies. I explained that this meant trying to develop a growth mind set where challenges are embraced, feedback is acted upon and students don't give up. Trying their hardest at all times is really important to student success.
Finally, I discussed with students the new Ready to Learn behaviour management system which we trialled at the end of the Summer Term. This is used by a number of schools, although we have individualised the process to our own school to make sure it takes into account students who have particular needs. In essence, the process protects the learning of students. In our school a very small number of students sometimes disrupt lessons and so most students will not be affected by this change whatsoever, however if disruption does happen then the process is very clear and students can get the support they need to change their behaviour. A key element of the process are the restorative conversations, which take place within 48 hours of a problem, between the teacher and student to work through the issue and correct it for the next lesson.
I hope you had a nice weekend and thank you once again for your support this week. We are looking forward to having another really successful year working with your children.
