Year 13 Exam Results
Published 15/08/24Our Year 13 students have been receiving their A Level and Vocational subject results this morning.
We are delighted to see so many of our students achieving the grades that they deserve and progressing on to their chosen destinations. At A Level 30% of grades were at A*-B grade, and 57% were at A*-C grade. In Vocational qualifications over half the grades achieved a Distinction or better.
Amongst our highest achieving students were Rossi McIntyre with A*AAA, who goes on to read Chemical Engineering at the University of Bath; Alex Roxas with A*AA, who goes on to read Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath; and Alex Quaife with AAA who goes on to read Economics at the University of Leeds. Liam Saryazdi has also been accepted to study Medicine.
Mr Inman comments, “We are delighted to be able to celebrate these results with our wonderful Year 13 students. They have been one of the year groups whose Secondary education was probably most affected by COVID. We have seen some stunning individual successes at the top end, but, as a truly comprehensive Sixth Form, I am so thrilled to see students succeed so well across the range of abilities and in such a diverse range of subjects.
“We are incredibly proud, not only of their academic performance, but also of the students’ wider achievements and the wonderful young adults that they have become over their time at Exmouth Community College. My thanks also to our brilliant team of hugely committed staff who have supported these students through their time with us, and especially over the turbulence of recent years”.
The vast majority of students who applied to university have now had their places confirmed – most of these being at their first-choice universities.
Head of Sixth Form, Mr Dyer, comments, “We are delighted that so many of our students have already secured their places at university or in other training or employment. We have been hugely impressed by the mature and resilient approach of our students throughout their Secondary experience and, in particular, the way in which they have supported each other as a community. We will continue to work with every young person to support them on to the next steps that are right for them and look forward to following their further progress in the years to come’.

Debate at Colyton Grammar School
Published 27/06/24On Saturday 22nd June, Mantie Parker and I had the absolute pleasure of taking 6 students to a day of debate at Colyton Grammar School. We were invited by Alex Hawkes, teacher of English and Debate Club Leader at Colyton. The event was organised by Alex and the University of Exeter Debating society to promote debating across the Southwest, particularly in schools where it is not fully established.
Debating can be enormously beneficial in improving pupils' oracy and self-confidence. This is in addition to the skills of logical reasoning, analytical thinking and leadership. The following students attended, recommended by their English teachers. They gave up their Saturdays to debate from 9am to 6pm with students from Colyton, Axe Valley and Torquay Academy.
Year 8 students:
Amelia Charles and Lucy Watt
Year 9 students:
Millie Bedding, Emmie Findel-Hawkins, Matilda Hatchard and Joseph Sheehy
There was a lot of parliamentary language and protocols for debating to learn and our students did really well considering Colyton has Debate running through their school from Years 7 to Sixth form.
Students were given 15 minutes to plan statements such as:
-
Closing private schools
-
Professional sport should allow the legalisation of performance enhancing drugs
-
Social media does more harm than good
The debates were exciting, strategic and frustrating, at times, but our students won some rounds and were commended for their skills in speaking. Our ECC students were engaged and forthright in their opinions, and we look forward to starting our own debate club in the new academic year.
A big thank you to support staff for helping Mantie and I organise this event.

Eco Group News
Published 27/06/24The eco group visited the beautiful National Trust property A la Ronde on Wednesday 26th June.
As part of the visit, we heard from David the head gardener and all of their brilliant conservation efforts by the team, and we had a tour of the beautiful house including the brand new 'Room of Discovery' which includes a shell display created in the pattern of bird song! Truly fascinating!
Well done to the brilliant eco group students; impeccable behaviour as always!
Many thanks all
