Sixth Form Life
At ECC, we know that your sixth form years are a time when you will be discovering who you are. As you develop your identity and your future plans, we want you to experience a wide variety of social, academic and extracurricular opportunities.
Whatever you get involved in here, whether it is leadership, charity fundraising, sport or a university residential, we want you to have plenty to draw on when the time comes to write your personal statement for university, apprenticeship or job application.
Electives
We are proud of our diverse range of electives. These are extracurricular and super-curricular sessions that students are part of on a Wednesday afternoon. Examples of electives provided by staff and external providers are: cooking on a budget, debate club, teaching English as a foreign language, preparing for medical school, crochet, self-defence and murder mystery club.
Leadership
Sixth Form is a great place to be challenged as a young leader. Sixth formers are role models for younger students and are often involved in supporting literacy programmes or football coaching in the main school. Students in the Sixth Form can train to be Mental Health Ambassadors, as well as be part of the Year 13 Prom Committee and the Student Council. Many sixth form students also lead charity initiatives to raise money for the sixth form charity.
As we develop our house system, we are anticipating lots more opportunities for sixth form leadership!
Tutor Programme
We will allocate you a personal tutor, who will give you one-to-one support with everything, from academic and social issues, to job, college and university applications throughout your time in Sixth Form. We are proud of the high quality, specialist teaching on offer in Sixth Form, and we constantly seek to constantly improve, to give you the very best educational experience possible. Our students meet regularly with a tutor – someone who gets to know you well over your time in the Sixth Form. Our tutors are here to support you and be the first point of contact for any help that you might need. As you progress into Year 13, your tutor will coordinate your UCAS references and often will be the person who writes employer references.
Our tutor programme reflects the school values of belonging, ambition and responsibility with sessions including:
- Charity work
- Community initiatives
- Next steps, including university, apprenticeships and employment
- Personal development
- Whole school broadcast
