Staffing

There are a number of Teaching Assistants supporting students across the curriculum, supporting identified students in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. 

Literacy Support Interventions 

There are a number of Literacy Interventions run for selected students throughout the College year:

Lexia Literacy Programme- This programme develops skills in a systematic and explicit way to allow our students to comprehend, retain and apply those important literacy foundations.

‘Sounds ~ Write’ intervention programme- This is a phonic course based on three phonemic awareness skills: blending, segmenting and phoneme manipulation.  It is designed to improve a child’s reading, spelling and writing and uses a multisensory approach to appeal to all types of learners.

Precision Teaching- one to one or in a small group with a Learning Mentor. Developing curriculum specific Language or Maths skills.

Early Morning Reading - These sessions provide one to one support with reading skills. Students are encouraged to read for understanding, this complements work carried out with the English Department.

Social Skills Group

Social Skills – identified groups of up to six students who will work with a Senior TA on building their social skills.  For example, students look at friendships, body language and building confidence.

Transition

The Learning Support Department offer a full transition programme for identified students in Year 6 who require an enhanced package and work closely with primary colleagues to ensure the process is effective.

One to One Intervention

Some students may receive 1:1 help in Maths or English as required.
