STEAM Day Online Conference

The zoom conference will be comprised of lectures, workshops and interactive panel sessions exploring the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Global Goal 15- Life on Land. Both STEM and Humanities subjects will address this goal from their own perspectives, showcasing how all subject disciplines can have their own positive impact on climate change.

Language competition

The University of Exeter’s Department of Modern Languages is running a fantastic competition and is really eager to get local school students involved. We would like students to make short recordings of their answer to a question using Flipgrid. Winners will be chosen based on analysis, accuracy and creativity! The competition will be open to all GCSE and AS/A-level students, studying any language.

Online subject taster week



28th June to 2nd July

From 28 June-2 July, the University of Exeter will be delivering a series of live and pre-recorded online subject taster sessions and content as part of our conference programme, ‘You do You-th: Empowering Generation Z’. The programme will be celebrating youth empowerment and young voices, aimed at Year 10-13 students.


The day-time programme will comprise of pre-recorded videos, content and activity which can be streamed, broadcast or delivered during school hours in your lessons. In addition, after school in the afternoons and evenings that week, students can sign up for and participate in live subject taster Zoom sessions.


These online sessions will give students the opportunity to experience a taste of university education as they watch and engage in academic subject video lectures and interactive seminars delivered by academic experts and current university students. Sessions could vary from a Politics session on the youth vote, to a Medicine interview with a junior doctor, to a Business panel on tips from young entrepreneurs, to an English/Film/Drama session on youth voice in the arts, etc. Interested students can also take part in competitions based on the programme’s key themes, and win prizes.

Virtual Law Talks Roadshow


Year 9 upwards

Available between Monday 31st May & Friday 11th June

Dr Matthew Channon will deliver a virtual law talk to your students, with flexible options on content, such as an insight into Matthew’s own inspirational ‘path to law’, an explanation of how law is taught at Exeter University and the transition from sixth-form studies, or a taster session on his own unique areas of research - Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Driving (‘Driverless Cars’). Accompanied by a student ambassador the session will also provide insight into university life and study from a student perspective.

Study Buddies - Skills for Studying STEM/ Humanities



Available for independent online learning and live virtual delivery

These online courses have been developed for independent learning and feature practical guidance on reading, writing, researching within STEM and Humanities & Social Sciences.  The study packs include videos filmed by University of Exeter Study Buddies who share experiences of using these skills at university.

Travelling Academics Roadshow


Year 9 upwards

Available for flexible delivery subject to speaker availability

This virtual roadshow will give your students an opportunity to hear a short talk from an academic or current University of Exeter student in a requested subject.  Speakers can provide expert insight on what it's like to study that particular subject at the University and/or a taster session, which could adapt to curriculum or focus on an academic’s specific research interests.

Social Sciences Q&A panels

We have developed a range of insightful and engaging Q&A panels in the following subjects – Anthropology, Arab and Islamic Studies (inc. Arabic language and Middle East Studies), Criminology, Law, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, and Sociology. Each panel features academics, students, and alumni speakers who offer delightful stories on what inspired them to get into their subject, and informative insights into the subjects themselves, ranging from questions such as ‘Why study this degree or subject area?’ to ‘What useful skills and attributes do graduates from this degree or subject area gain?’

STEM beyond boundaries - Women in STEM school talks

Available for flexible delivery subject to speaker availability

A 1-hour virtual session aimed at inspiring female students to study a STEM subject at university and show that a career in science is within their reach. The session will be delivered by current female University of Exeter students who are studying a range of STEM subjects, and will include a mini seminar and a Q&A.
