Key Stage 3

We offer a wide range of Design and Technology (D&T) projects in KS3.  The year, is broken into four quarters, with students studying Food technology, Textiles technology and two sections of D&T.  The KS3 projects are designed to give students a broad understanding of the subject and different material areas so that they have developed the basic skills, processes and techniques required to be able to progress to GCSE courses.

The KS3 projects are as follows: 

Year 7:  Textiles - using surface decoration techniques to produce an apron.  Food - promoting healthy eating through theory and a variety of practical tasks.  D&T Graphics - task based on board games and introduction to the workshops with CAD/CAM and production of a key rack.

Year 8:  Textiles - using applique to produce a themed cushion.  Food - energy foods theory and a variety of practical tasks.   D&T - sustainability and recycling of plastics to produce a clock as well as a skills and STEM based project.

Year 9:  Textiles - researching up-cycling and make do and mend to produce a bag.  Food - ethnic foods theory and a variety of practical tasks.  D&T - Using wooden joints to produce a photo frame and small storage box.
