Transition update for Year 6, Parents & Carers.
Dear Year 6, Parents and Carers,
RE: Transition update – 22nd May 2020
We hope you are all safe and well during this time and we wanted to outline in this update what our plans are for your transition to the College following May half term. It is perfectly natural for you to feel apprehensive, a little anxious and hopefully excited about moving to the Community College and we hope this message will reassure you! The Principal Mr Davis, all the staff and students are looking forward to you joining us at the Community College.
Meetings with primary colleagues
Firstly, we would like to thank all the fantastic teachers and staff across our feeder primary schools who have been involved in the transition meetings we have held online over the last three to four weeks. Our transition team, which has included Mr Turner (Deputy Principal), Mr Dawkins (Head of Year), Miss Pearcey (Pastoral Assistant to Year 7), Mrs Tigwell (Assistant SENDCO) and Mrs Hunter (Pupil Progress Mentor) have been at all the meetings and we have been given valuable information about each of you. This will help ensure a smooth and successful transition to the Community College.
Mr Turner will now begin the process over May half term of forming the tutor groups for your year group. This will be his last time of doing this as in September; the College welcomes a new Assistant Principal to take over the leadership of Key Stage 3, a position Mr Turner has included within his Deputy Principal role over the last six years. The new Assistant Principal for Key Stage 3 will be Mrs Malton. She is excited to be joining the College, is keen to be involved in the transition process, and will work closely with Mr Turner and the Year 7 team over the coming months.
When Mr Turner has finished forming the tutor groups, he will send draft lists to your primary school for checking before we confirm by email or letter your tutor group. You will receive this email/letter during the week beginning Monday 15th June 2020.
We are fully committed at the College to ensuring you have the opportunity before the summer holiday to visit, meet key teachers (which will include your tutor) and have a tour. In order to observe social distancing and keep everyone safe, we will have a ‘Welcome Week’ where each tutor group will be able to visit for one and a half hours during the week. This will take place the week beginning Monday 6th July. As a result, the originally scheduled Welcome Day and Evening on the 6th July are replaced by these arrangements. The SEND department will also be arranging further visits in conjunction with Welcome Week. Further information and details will be included within the tutor allocation email/letter, along with other important information.
The College transition team have been meeting regularly online during the past few weeks to plan your transition and we will be releasing information weekly through either the transition page on our College website and/or through the Facebook group within our College Facebook page. If you have not yet joined, please do. The group is ECC Year 7s from September 2020. Mr Dawkins and Mrs Pearcey have already complete a uniform vlog, which is already on our Facebook page and is worth a look! They have also worked hard this week to create a ‘virtual tour’ of the College, which will be released after May half term. We will also be including other key information about transition each week and it would be helpful if you did have any particular things you would like us to feature, to let us know on the Facebook Group and we can then respond.
Finally, we look forward to meeting you all in person and are excited about supporting you in the next stage of your education.
Stay safe and well,
Mr Turner Mr Dawkins Mrs Pearcey
