Healthy Families

Healthy Families The LED Outreach Team have been working hard with our local community to understand what we can do to better support healthy lifestyles at home. In response to the feedback they collated, they have created an attractive and useful leaflet that offers some helpful hints for families to keep them active and encourage healthier eating. At LED we want to encourage families to be active together, whether its in their local park or joining one of our family swim sessions. The Outreach Team regularly provide helpful hints on healthy eating and types of activities families can try together on the Outreach LED Facebook page. Jane Nicholls, Active Communities Coordinator said, “The key messages within the leaflet are about keeping fit and eating healthy and also has a range of fun activities, as well as some healthy recipes. We felt that to make the leaflet more engaging and accessible for all, it would be good to do a voice over version. Six of our primary school pupils worked together to read different sections of the leaflet which we then added to the leaflet as a voiceover edition. The children involved were very excited to see and hear their finished product and can’t wait to share the healthy messages! We hope this alternative option engages more families within our community.” The leaflet is available online and will be distributed in hard copy to a selection of local schools in East Devon as well as available at all of our leisure centres and swimming pools. Alternatively, enjoy the valuable messages as read by the Year 6 pupils of Littleham Primary School, Exmouth. Remember: Get healthy, less screen time, more sleep and make healthy food swaps!

The students worked with the team, focussing on the benefits of physical activity for their general wellbeing. Having good mental health helps us relax more, achieve more and enjoy our lives. The programme also offered simple tips and advice to help students deal with stress and anxiety, improving sleep, boosting mood and feeling more in control.

The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we are pleased to announce that we will be working with LED again in the autumn term.

The Community section from LED work with several schools across East Devon. They offer a specific physical activity project alongside the mental health charity Heads Up to meet the needs of certain students within the school. Led want to give young people a positive experience with physical activity showing them the benefits that can be gained to support them both socially and emotionally and build their wider resilience. Being physically active can support good mental health and maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is important that the young people are encouraged into these positive behaviours. LED and Heads Up work with the school to create the best possible project that works well for the young people.
