If you enjoy Art & Design and Design Technology and you wish to be a part of the unique atmosphere of the Design Technology Department at Post 16 then A Level Art & Design:3D is for you.

3D allows you to express yourself creatively and to produce work based on your own strengths and interests. Throughout the course you will work from different themes, experiment with a wide range of media, techniques and research the work of artists, thus identifying and developing your own style of working. 3D allows you experience a wide range of media including card, metal, wood, polymers, wire, CAD/CAM and produce a variety of final outcomes from furniture, jewellery, lighting, architecture models to product design. You can specialise in one or more areas with a team of dedicated and experienced teachers and technicians who will support you on your creative journey.

What will I study?

  • Contextual studies and the work of influential artists and designers both contemporary and historical.
  • Develop your use of visual language through art and design techniques.
  • Use a range of media, techniques and processes to explore a self-selected briefs and themes.

How will I be assessed?

Component 1: Personal Investigation

  • Portfolio of work.
  • Personal study of a minimum of 1000 words.
  • Coursework
  • 60% of total A-level assessment

Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (February Yr13)

  • Portfolio of work
  • Preparatory time plus a 15-hour timed examination.
  • 40% of total A-level assessment

Where can Art & Design:3D lead me?

The A Level Art & Design:3D course provides a route to further education, with students progressing to foundation, direct to BA degrees or apprenticeships. This could lead you to work, either freelance or employed, in a wide range of areas, such as: fine art, craft, media, advertising, design, architecture, fashion, product design, merchandising, film and many more.
