Our Pupil Premium PACT
At Exmouth Community College, Pupil Premium students are at the forefront of everything we do. When working with our young people, all staff are asked to encourage a wider belief in the idea that any future is possible for any student.
We call this our Pupil Premium PACT (Praise me, Ask me, Choose me, Talk to me). This forms the core of not just our lesson planning but our approach to trips and activities, assistance with equipment and uniform, and general encouragement and aspiration for our students.
Praise me a lot for my work. I thrive on positive praise; it helps me feel like a valued part of the group.
Ask me first when questioning (cold calling). Plan questions for me that will develop my confidence and build my self-esteem.
Choose me first for tasks, demonstrations, 'nice jobs', activities, encourage me to go on trips and extra-curricular activities.
Talk to me about my interests. Enthuse me on going to University, a great career path or jobs that I may not even know about.
Our Pupil Premium Plan
Our plan has been devised to meet the needs of our students in the context of Exmouth Commuity College. By assessing the needs of our students we have developed a plan that helps to meet the needs of our community. All support has been identified using research from the Education Endowment Foundation. A simple outline of the plan is presented below, a detailed explanation of what the Pupil Premium Grant is can be found below this.
We have a dedicated Pupil Premium Team which we refer to as our Pupil Progress Team. These key staff oversee a whole College strategy for Pupil Premium Students, removing any barriers to education and ensuring they have access to personal tutors, in class mentors, pastoral support and also extra lessons in key subjects at Key Stage 4. This is all designed to ensure that these students receive high quality education and the best chances of success at G.C.S.E and A Level.
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years.
Schools also receive funding for children who have been looked after and children of service personnel.
The Premium will be allocated to schools alongside their main schools budget each year.
Accountability
The Government believes that head teachers and school leaders should decide how to use the Pupil Premium. They are held accountable for the decisions they make through:
· the performance tables which show the performance of disadvantaged pupils compared with their peers.
· the Ofsted inspection framework, under which inspectors focus on the attainment of pupil groups, in particular those who attract the Pupil Premium.
Funding
In most cases the Pupil Premium is paid direct to schools, allocated to them for every pupil who receives free school meals, or has done in the previous six years. Schools decide how to use the funding, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision their pupils need.
Local authorities are responsible for looked after children and make payments to schools and academies where an eligible looked after child is on roll. This is via PEP (Pupil Education Plan) meetings with the student's social worker and the virtual school.
