At Key Stage 4 we offer GCSE (OCR) and BTEC Level 1 / Level 2 First Certificate in Music.  Students receive three hours per week for each option subject.

Is this course for me?

If you enjoy playing a musical instrument / singing and composing your own music, then yes, this course is for you!

What does the course involve?

Performance – Two performances on an instrument of your choice. You choose the pieces to play. One must be performed with other people. The performances will be recorded in the studio - not performed in front of an audience.

Composition – Two compositions. You can use music software to help you compose. The pieces will need to be recorded.  One piece will be set by you and the other will be set by the exam board.

Listening (Written exam) - Students listen to a variety of music and answer questions about it. These topics include Film Music, Popular Music, Rhythmic Music from around the world and traditional 'Classical' Music.

How will my work be assessed?

Controlled Assessment: 60%      =         Performance (30%), Composition (30%)

Exam: 40%

What courses can this lead to in Post-16?

Any music course (BTEC / A Level).
