Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Dear Parents and Carers,

The College is deeply saddened to hear the news of the Queen’s death last night.

This morning we asked that all tutors spend time during tutor period to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth and support students.

The following was sent to tutors to read to students:

"We, as a College will show our respect for a woman who stood for all the values we, as citizens of the United Kingdom, try and demonstrate in our lives and our work.  The College will allow opportunities during this period of mourning for us all to understand the historical significance of both her reign, her funeral and the accession of King Charles. People may be feeling emotional at this time due to the national outpouring of grief, their own memories or links to the Queen, or because of their own experiences of death.  She was a woman who did the same job for 70 years, often championing the importance of children and opportunities for them particularly as patron of Save the Children. Our best legacy is to ensure the children in our school receive the best education.

I am sure you share our sadness about the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who passed away peacefully at Balmoral yesterday.

Our Queen was a shining example in her service to our country of the values of integrity, honesty and compassion. We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to the Royal Family".

We also asked tutors to show one or both of the clips below, and ensured they asked any student who may be feeling upset to visit their Year Office.

We are currently waiting on guidance from the Department for Education regarding arrangements for schools. We will update you once we have the information.

If you believe there is anything we should be aware of to help support your child, please do contact their tutor in the first instance.

Best Wishes
