Response from Principal Andrew Davis to the Prime Minister's statement on May 10th

Dear Parents and Carers,

Many families will have heard the Prime Minister’s address on Sunday 11th May in which he stated that:

“At the earliest by June 1 – after half term – we believe we may be in a position to begin the phased reopening of shops and to get primary pupils back into schools, in stages, beginning with reception, Year 1 and Year 6. Our ambition is that secondary pupils facing exams next year will get at least some time with their teachers before the holidays.”

Currently, our school like many others, will continue to offer places for vulnerable children and those of key workers but we understand that many other parents and carers will want to know more about when their children will return to school.

From a secondary perspective all we currently know is that the Government have stated students facing exams, that is presumably, Year 10 and 12, will get some time with their teachers before the Summer holiday. We have no further details than this.

With the 2 metre social distancing rules currently in force, it will be unlikely that we will be able to re-open fully, even for this limited number of students, since our classrooms will only be able to hold approximately 6 - 10 students safely. Our plans will most probably involve some element of phased return to allow us to implement new procedures, assess how safely they are working and to amend those procedures as we go along.

Schools across the country will also have heard this news for the first time on Sunday and over the course of the next week or two, all schools, including ourselves, will be reviewing the detailed guidance Government has said it will provide.

We will then take any action required to open the school to the year groups identified in a safe way. When we are in a position to do so we will provide information on our website and on social media so that parents and carers will know exactly when the school will be able to once again offer a place for their children.

Many thanks for your ongoing support.

Andrew Davis - Principal
