During Key Stage 3 all students will follow courses to fulfil National Curriculum Criteria. The table above shows how many periods of each subject are taught per week. There are 25 periods in a week of one hour each (lessons on Wednesdays are shorter to allow for Personal Development ).

The most able students will also study Latin which is taught by extraction from one period of English in Year 7, extra lessons before school and in Year 8, and in the enrichment hour in Year 9. At the end of Year 8 Ancient Greek will be additionally offered to specially selected Latin Students on the basis of interest and ability, as an extra lesson before school.

In September 2008 Year 7 began the new Secondary Curriculum. While maintaining the broad structure of weekly lessons below, it is recognised that students learn through a variety of other activities such as assemblies, tutor times, activity week, visits to the library, sports clubs and other curriculum enrichment activities. There are also key Key Skills that we will focus on. In Year 7 these are listening, how to work in a group, problem solving and note taking. These skills will be practised throughout the curriculum during the year.

Targets: all students are set a target to work to: see Homework Diaries. This table shows comparative progress levels at KS 3
