College Musicians Give A La Ronde a Kick Start

On a brilliant, sunny morning (Saturday March 13th) musicians from the college conducted by Head of Music, Mr Stock, entertained the crowds to celebrate the season opening of our local National Trust property, "A La Ronde."  The college sponsored the event as part of our community cohesion work in order to raise the profile of this unique and historic local property.  Principal, Mr Alexander, attended the event and said that it was very pleasing to work with the National Trust especially when it created such an enjoyable morning.  Representing the National Trust, Salli Carr-Griffin, said that she wanted to pass her heartfelt thanks on to everyone involved for their support, time and hard work.

ICT Tips

Art Trail
This event is part of a continuing relationship between the College and "A La Ronde": on the 23rd of March college Art students will be installing a number of pieces around the grounds to create a unique "art trail" under the guidance of Terri Cooke, Head of Art. Photographs will be available here after the installation.

Maths Team Challenge Regional Final

Room 122 at 3.05 p.m. Please make sure that someone at home knows where you are.

This week saw students from Exmouth take part in the UKMT Regional Final. This challenge is designed to promote mathematical dexterity, team work and communication skills and gives students the opportunity to compete against other schools in the region.
30 teams from Devon competed for a place in the National final held in London in June. This year proved to be a tough challenge with very high scoring rounds for a regional final. Torquay Boys Grammar took first place with Wellington and Clyst Vale taking joint second. Well done to our Exmouth A and Exmouth B team, joint 17th with each other.

Maths In Motion Final

Thursday March 11th was the Final of the 2010 Maths in Motion Challenge cup. Over the previous six weeks primary schools from across Exmouth had entered teams in attempt to design the ultimate Formula 1 driving machine and win their heat in the series.
The final was fifty laps on the Bahrain Circuit. The ‘Super Salterton’ led the race from the early stages, despite some erratic driving and wide cornering, they took the cup.
Prizes and certificates were awarded to all participants in the 2010 Maths in Motion series and we look forward to the next series planned for the Autumn Term.

P.E Department are now collecting the Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers

Fairtrade Awareness Concert
Do you want your School to be Fairtrade?
The College was delighted to welcome the singer Martin John Nicholls to feature in a special concert arranged by a Year 9 Enrichment group.  The focus of the concert was on making students more aware of issues regarding Fairtrade and Martin spoke about his experiences in Ghana.
A Fairtrade school is where the school supports the Fairtrade Foundation.
The Fairtrade Foundation helps poverty and local communities to improve.
His songs encouraged us to realise that we can make a difference to the lives of farmers by what we choose to buy.  The concert also featured acts from other students in the College (Gina Bentley, Emily and Freddy, Beyond the Green).

GSUS LIVE is centred in an articulated lorry, which has been transformed into a space age multi media classroom equipped with 3D technology. The students are transported into the lives of three young people, who are struggling with issues that, within the lesson, they’re commissioned to resolve.
With a computer terminal and a very clever programme each student gives advice to the imaginary person that they’re helping. By the end of the lesson
students will have a clear understanding of what Jesus taught and why.
GSUS Live will be at the College Monday 22nd
March - Thursday 1st April
